Summer RV Trip Statistics

A brief summary of our summer RV trip, statistics wise. We were initially surprised surprised at how many empty sites there were at the RV parks we stayed at, but when the price of fuel went ever higher the further north we travelled it was apparent many people decided not to travel this year for that reason. Next year we plan to travel in our RV about 8 months, unless we decide to spend more time outside the US. The freedom of the open road wherever it is, is the greatest thing about the way we live.

2 – Countries traveled in (US and Canada)

6 – States traveled through (Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, N. & S. Dakota) we traveled though all states twice, once going north and once returning to Texas

69 – Number of days on trip

$250 – cost of gas

$1500 – cost of diesel fuel

2000 – number of miles RV driven

$2700 – cost of RV parks

Way Beyond Just Hot

I mostly go barefooted, only occasionally wearing Teva’s when we go shopping, etc. Today I went out to add some water to the bird bath and and my feet were on fire. Going back inside I saw the temperature. Now I know why my feet were on fire. 106 degrees is the highest temperature we have had all summer. Our trip to Europe can not come soon enough.

Comfort Food

A tortilla, lean smoked turkey lunchmeat, sautéed sweet onions, quesadilla cheese and spicy mustard, all grilled to perfection. My wife is trying to use up as much food in the refrigerator as she can. It has literally been decades since we had this, but it sure won’t be that long before we have it again. Like later this week. Something tells me we won’t find this in a restaurant in Europe. But then again, we very seldom find food as good as we have when traveling overseas, when we eat at restaurants in the US. And to think, a week from today we will be in France. Can’t wait for some awesome goat cheese.

Anker Multi-plug Outlet

So much for my talking about taking only small items. This outlet is not small, but it is very lightweight.

The USB outlets incorporated in it is why I bought it. Hopefully it will work as well as it sounds like it should. I’ve bought a number of Anker products over the years all have preformed very well, hopefully this will as well.

USB Hub for Traveling

In a week we be leaving to spend a little over three months in Europe and North Africa. We each only take a day pack and a carryon when we go overseas, so any items we take must be small in size and low in weight, This 4 port mini usb hub works great. Attached to the single usb port on my Surface 4, I can have my portable SSD drive, camera or SD card reader and my headphone/microphone in use at the same time to handle any photo editing as well as dictating blog posts using Dragon speech recognition software.

The hub is very small and weighs next to nothing. We can also use it to charge multiple devices overnight from the single plug we often find in hotel rooms if needs be.
