Strasbourg to Frankfurt am Main

The huge cube I bought for our electrical needs seems to accommodate all the devices I use, plus some of she who travels with me.

I have no idea how many times we have walked past this huge tree during our days in Strasbourg, but today we finally noticed it.

It is what makes Strasbourg, Strasbourg.

We were in car 15. They make train travel so easy in Europe. We were standing right where we needed to be to board our car when the train stopped.

Hotel Meininger at the Frankfurt Flughafen (airport). Just a place to stay before flying out early tomorrow morning.

Tiny bathroom, but for the price and convenience, no problem.

Tomorrow’s plans were turned upside down today when we arrived in Frankfurt. Our flight tomorrow morning was on Lufthansa. The Lufthansa pilots union is striking tomorrow and all flights from Frankfurt and Munich (where we were to connect to fly to Toulouse, France have been cancelled.) A future post will detail all we went through to get to Toulouse on time. A hint: we will be in Germany, Belgium, Spain and France, but we will get to the canal boat on time.

Strasbourg – Our Room at Hotel Gutenberg

The room was somewhat larger than the typical small rooms we usually find in France during our travels. It was also very well appointed. The room overlook an alleyway and with double windows was very quiet.

At first I tried to make the letters on the headboard of the bed into a word. Then came that Duh! moment. Hotel Gutenberg, Johannes Gutenberg, he of the invention of movable type. I must be getting old. The bed is two twins put together, so lots of room for two.

The bathroom was downright huge. Plenty of counter space to lay things out, a heated drying rack for towels and clothes. Robes and slippers also.

Large walk in shower with multiple heads and NUXE hair and body cleansing gel was beyond awesome. No conditioner needed, either as the gel did it all. With the location being so close to the tram line and everything in the old town being a short walk away it was the perfect place to stay.

On the Streets of Strasbourg

Very few vehicles are allowed in the old city center, yet there can still be traffic jams
A sock store
Cheese shop
Personal items, love the shaving brushes
A shop selling only belts
Fruit and vegetable market
Art shop with only photos of people’s irises.
Used iPhones
Pedestrian only streets everywhere
Outdoor market
Outdoor seating and table space is strictly controlled
Only once have we ever had decent Mexican food in Europe and that was in Edinburgh
Sadly they are everywhere
No doubt what they sell here
This shop stepped up the game hoping to attract more dogs and guys

Strasbourg – A Traditional Lunch

A beautiful day, a beautiful girl and a very nice setting and a wonderful meal. As good as it gets.
I think it is a cool photo.
She had her usual glass of Riesling
Traditional Flammenkueke
Traditionelle for me, Grantinee for her. Both were very, very good indeed. This restaurant was recommended to us as the best place in Strasbourg for Falammenkeuke.

Strarsbourg – Out and About – Day 3

We took this shortcut during our morning walk. We always say once we know shortcuts through a town it is time to leave.
There are reflections, then there are reflections
Where is the bridge?
Bridge closing. We never know what we are going see.
Saying goodbye to Petite France
He was a truly great man
Looking towards the University he was so closely associated with.
