Fixing the RVLock on Our 5th Wheel

The keypad cover on the entrance lock was deteriorating after just a few years and needed to be replaced.

Step one was removing the inside mechanism.

The exterior mechanism with the original silicone pad removed showing the thin film that was cracking and falling apart.

They offered two types of replacement pads. One was the same as the original, the other was a much more robust pad that actually didn’t cost that much more than the flimsy original.

The new heavier pad installed.

My Wife Did Her Own Transfers with LapLink PCMover Professional!

Here is my wife setting up Windows on her computer. She also transferred her apps, settings and data from her dead computer’s HDD to her new computer just as I did. For her new computer she selected an HP Z2 G5 Small Form Factor Workstation for the same reason I selected my computer. We both had very little room for the computer.

Her new computer is small enough that it sits on top of her table/desk. with the Wi-Fi adapter and USB adapter on top of the case.

Transferring Data, Apps and Settings From the Dead Computer to the New Computer

Transferring everything from a dead computer to a new one proved to be far less difficult than I originally thought. Doing Duck Duck Go (DDG) search of the internet turned up the solution to the problem, a downloadable software package called Laplink PCMover Professional. The reason I picked this one was because I needed to transfer everything from the HHD since the computer was not working. I also bought a powered SATA adapter to power and connect the old HHD to my new computer. I had watched the LapLink YouTube video for the PCMover Professional several times before doing the transfer and everything just as expected. To say the least, I was very pleased with the results going from Windows 10 on the old HDD to Windows 11 on the new computer.

My New Computer

I bought my new computer from B&H. Over the years they have always treated me well on any electronics and photography items I have purchased from them.

The box with the computer was very well packed inside the B&H box.

It is an HP Z2 G9 Mini workstation set up to handle the image and video processing I do with out going overboard. The ruler shows the reason I went with a mini workstation as opposed to a tower. It needed to fit where my old workstation was located and in no way would a tower case work. Over the years I’ve come to realize it is far better to buy the computer I need rather than the one I want. With the Intel Core i7 12-Core (12th Gen), 32GB of 4800 MHz DDR5 RAM, NVIDIA T1000 (8GB GDDR6) and 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD it should serve me for a long time. And in case you are wondering, I’m not a gamer, never have been and don’t plan on ever being one.

Maybe Things Really Do Happen In Threes

First it was my wife’s computer, then it was my computer, and now it is my phone that has stopped working. That last one was an easy quick fix as I had purchased a Moto E on sale last year as a backup in case something like this happened. I wonder if that was the reason my phone failed, it knew I had a backup ready? Can our technology devices really think for themselves? Isn’t it strange how the human mind works? Time to come back to reality from the twilight zone, lol.
